The cup is inscribed with the words “Presented to the Charlotteville Cycling Club” but the circumstances surrounding its inception have sadly been lost.
Originally awarded to the winner of the Open Novices Half Mile Scratch Race (at the old Whit Monday Sports meeting) it was reallocated in 1960 to the Club Road Champion, now known as the Club Time Trial Champion. This was originally in line with the BAR (50 mile, 100 mile, 12 hour) but was modified in 2009 and is now awarded to the rider with the best average time across 25, 50 and 100 miles.
