Originally presented to George Nightingale by fellow members of the Charlotteville Cycling Club to commemorate a great ride in the Solihull 25 of 1939. George completed the ride in 59 minutes 37 seconds, the first occasion upon which a 25-mile road race (in fact a time trial) was ridden on a single bicycle on an out-and-back course in less than an hour.
The trophy was returned to the Club in 2000 by George’s family after his death in 1999, and was then awarded annually to the rider of the fastest time in a Club Evening 25.
Following the decline of the club evening 25’s since 2011 it has been awarded to the fastest 25-mile time trial by a Charlotteville lady.
