In 2009, the Guildford Cycle Challenge will be held on Sunday 27th September.
Many of the details of the Challenge will be similar to last year, so we have left this website intact. Remember, though, that there may be minor changes. Online entries are now closed for this years event but you can still enter by post (as long as you get it in early given the postal strikes we've been having) or drop us an email through the contact link and we can advise whether entry on the line is still possible.

The Charlotteville Cycling Club is well known for its popular Town Centre Races which are held annually in Guildford, Surrey, and is one of the oldest sports clubs in the Borough. With a long history of organising cycling events of many kinds, the club has been delighted by the success of the GCC.
Experienced cyclists generally enjoyed the longer and more challenging routes, with the shortest route attracting many new cyclist and their families. They have thoroughly enjoyed cycling in beautiful countryside just a few kilometres from Guildford town centre.

The 2009 Guildford Cycle Challenge will comprise of three rides, each on the best of local roads and each offering a different challenge, with something for all. They are:

  • Bike for All (for families / beginners): This ride is 48km (28 miles) long and based on a route following country lanes to the south of Guildford. There will be plenty of support for novice riders.
  • Challenge (for intermediate riders): This ride is 85km (52 miles) long, also looping south of Guildford on fine country lanes, but including a couple of the steep climbs in the Surrey hills that our area is well-known for.
  • Epic (for advanced riders): The long ride is 132km (82.5 miles) and includes most of the area's climbs that we could find! With more than 2,300 meters of climbing, this route is a test even of the fittest cyclists.

Each ride will be marshalled, with directional guidance, maps, and mobile support, with food and drinks provided along the way. The routes have been selected by some of Guildford's most experienced cyclists, many of whom will be riding - or supporting the rides - on the day.

Don't be put off by the distance. This is designed to be a challenge at each level, but can be achieved by any cyclist whether they are fitness fanatics or just occasional rides ... and because the rides are supported we will ensure that you get home safely.

Please note for 2009 we have ensured the fees for the events remain unchanged and are as below:

Fees:
Epic - 130km  £20.00
Challenge - 85km  £20.00
Bike for All - 45km  £12.00
Bike for All (Youth) - 45km  £8.00

For further details see the separate sections of this mini site by following the links near the top of the page just under the Guildford Cycle Challenge graphic.

We hope to see you on the 27th September. If you are short of a training partner why not join us on a Charlotteville Cycling club ride, we are a friendly bunch and always happy to see new faces. Go to the Charlotteville CC website for more details on the club and our rides.

Happy Training

Carol
